Who is this course for?

This workshop is for practitioners working with babies and toddlers.

This session is essential for those settings undertaking the Lancashire Quality Award – Mathematics in the Early Years and recommended for those undertaking the Lancashire Quality Award – Birth to Three.

Course content

Practitioners will be inspired to become playful and confident mathematical partners in young children's learning, ensuring that firm foundations in mathematical development can be established right from the start!

The course will support practitioners to harness the mathematical opportunities available within the learning environment and daily routines, illustrating that meaningful mathematics for babies and toddlers can be everywhere. We will consider how key steps in learning, during the 0-3 age phase, lay the building blocks of each mathematical concept.

Training aims:

  • To gain an understanding of children’s development of mathematical concepts from 0-3 years of age
  • To explore the role of the adult in supporting children’s mathematical development
  • To provide ideas for mathematical opportunities and experiences through daily routines and core provision
