Having fun with letters and sounds
Who is this course for?
Practitioners working with three-year-olds who want to learn more about how to support, embed and develop the use of phase one phonics to support early reading in their setting.
This session is essential for those settings undertaking the Lancashire Quality Award – Early Reading.
Course content
This session explores phase one phonics as a prime strategy for supporting early reading and a vital pre-cursor for more systematic phonic learning.
Fun, interactive ideas support the link between phonics and communication and language, particularly listening and attention. This session gives examples across all seven aspects of phase one phonics and the three strands, as well as important information to ensure practitioners take away top tips for teaching phase one phonics.
This session reviews how early reading is supported by exploring and experimenting with sounds all around. Music and singing are integrated throughout giving ideas for songs linked to routines and day to day practice. Resource ideas support phonemic awareness throughout continuous provision and support progression.
(There will be opportunities for practitioners to reflect upon and share their current practice and a range of materials and teaching resources to view if attending an in-house session.)
This session can be delivered as a webinar staff meeting for settings, with a Q&A. The charge is £75. T&Cs apply. Please email: earlyyearscentre@lancashire.gov.uk with your requirements.
