This training is for practitioners working with children aged 3 - 5 years of age.
This session is essential for those settings undertaking the Lancashire Quality Award – Mathematics in the Early Years.
Course content
Let’s not forget about shape, space and measure.

This training will support practitioners to open children’s eyes to shapes, spatial relationships and measurement through purposeful and meaningful learning opportunities. Building knowledge of these key concepts through manipulation, exploration and conversation. A key focus considered will be the role of the adult will be promoting mathematical language and will also unpick child development for each mathematical concept.
Training aims:
- To gain an understanding of children’s development of mathematical concepts linked to space, shape and measure
- To explore the role of the adult in promoting mathematical language and ways to introduce and model essential vocabulary
- To provide a wealth of new ideas for teaching shape, space and measure in meaningful and purposeful contexts
