Lancashire Quality Award – Sharing Food and Sharing Celebrations
This module provides an opportunity to reflect on how well the setting maximises the social and learning potential within well planned healthy snack and meal times.
It also enables evaluation of how children’s experiences and achievements, both large and small, are valued and celebrated.
Consideration is given to a set of module standards and how to further improve and develop practice in these areas:
- The setting has a good understanding of the learning and development opportunities possible through well planned meal and snack times
- Children are involved in preparing, serving and clearing away at meal/snack times and during cooking activities
- Good hygiene, independence and choice are promoted
- Children’s individual dietary needs are catered for
- The food provided is well balanced, healthy and nutritious
- The food provided encourages the appreciation of a variety of tastes and cultures
- The setting has a good understanding of the value of sharing relevant celebrations with the children that reflect their home culture
- Diversity is celebrated within the provision, which encourages breadth and avoids tokenism
- Experiences important to the children, both in the setting and outside, are valued and celebrated
