Bus Prioirty in Bowerham, including Bowerham Road

Location: Bowerham Road, Malvern Avenue, and Parkfield Drive, Lancaster and parts of Hala

Proposals:

We are improving road and junction layouts and reviewing parking restrictions in the area. The proposals are split into 2 phases: 

• Phase 1: Minor improvements to traffic orders / parking restrictions on Bowerham Road and in Hala to improve access for buses.
• Phase 2: Review of the Bowerham Road/ Barton Road junction

Progress

Phase 1:

• We have engaged with stakeholders throughout the development of the designs.
• We carried out formal advertising and Traffic Regulation Order consultation in May / June 2023.
• After the first consultation, we revised the initial designs for Bowerham based on feedback and re-advertised the proposals between 28 March and 25 April 2024.
• At the same time, we advertised proposals for a limited number of Traffic Regulation Orders for St Martins Road, St Oswald Street, Cockersands Drive, Hala Road, Lentworth Drive, Hala Hill, Newmarket Avenue, Kempton Road, Colllingham Park, Bentham Road, Collingham Road and Whinfell Drive, to enable buses to manoeuvre more easily where there are current pinch points (for example, around corners and at junctions)
• Objections were received for the revised Bowerham designs, which will now go through Lancashire County Council's formal decision-making process to determine the next steps. We will keep you informed of dates for this decision-making process
• Objections were also received to some of the additional proposed Traffic Regulation Orders and these are being reviewed and discussed with stakeholders to incorporate the comments received.

However, we are reviewing and amending these proposals and will inform you when the next round of consultation begins.
