Nature and biodiversity

  • We are delivering Biodiversity Net Gain through the planning system
  • We, in partnership with Lancashire Wildlife Trust and Natural England, established and manage the Biological Heritage Site system. There are just over 1,200 Biological Heritage Sites which encompass a whole range of habitats (including ancient woodlands, peatlands, wetlands and species-rich grasslands) and species.
  • We host the Lancashire Environment Record Network, which collects, manages and shares information on the species, habitats and protected areas in the county.
  • We are the Responsible Authority for the development of the Lancashire Local Nature Recovery Strategy. The strategy will map Lancashire's important habitats and identify opportunities for nature recovery.
