Primary school special diets

Diabetes, gluten free, food allergySpecial diets are an important consideration for the Lancashire Catering Service when catering for pupils with medically diagnosed food allergies, food intolerances or other medical conditions that affect their eating requirements.

These diets are not simply a matter of preference or dislike for certain foods or food groups, but rather a necessary medical requirement.

Schools should be informed of any such requirements by parents or guardians, and the necessary steps taken to ensure that suitable food is provided for theĀ  pupil. Parents and guardians should contact the school office in the first instance to inform them of any dietary requirements.

With clear policies and effective communication between all parties involved, pupils with special dietary requirements can be accommodated and supported in their educational journey.

It is important to note that schools should have clear policies in place for the provision of special diets and the communication of allergens.

For more information on the policies and procedures for special diets and allergen communication in primary and secondary schools, please see the relevant school policy documents.
