Differences between social value input and impact

Measuring and evaluating social value is an important step to making sure were doing the right things. At Lancashire we measure two things.

Social value input metrics

Input metrics measure what you are investing in a social value initiative, such as money, resources, and time. They are often complex to measure and require both quantitative and qualitative input to assess. Input metrics help organisations assess and monitor the scale of their investment and the extent of their social value future commitments.

Social value impact metrics

Impact metrics on the other hand, measure the actual outcomes and effects of social value initiatives on its intended beneficiaries, such as community's and people. These metrics assess the changes, benefits, or improvements brought about by the initiative.

Why both matter

Whilst both are important, neither can be done in isolation and one leads to the other. The impact metrics are what organisations contribute. It's their hard work and toil. But without the rigours of the input metrics, there would be no outcome to measure and no long term commitment to change.
