Update from Mark Wynn Interim Chief Executive Mark Wynn 14 November 2024

Hello everyone,

This past month has flown by with a whirlwind of activity and numerous meetings. One of the big things to come out was the Autumn Statement by government. While we welcomed extra funding for Adult Social Care and Highways there was no significant increase in funding for us. We also await the publication of the government's white paper on English Devolution. I will be talking more about these topics in our upcoming Employee Conferences.

Employee conferences

Myself and the Executive Leadership Team will be holding Employee Conferences on Monday 18 November in Lancaster, Wednesday 20 November in Burnley and
Wednesday 27 November at County Hall, Preston. They will give you an overview of:

  • Our budget
  • The Council Plan
  • The 15 change projects happening across the organisation
  • How we’re supporting our workforce, and
  • Updates from each directorate.

You can book your place by clicking this link.

The session at County Hall on 27 November will be hybrid so you can attend in person or watch online. You only need to book a place for Preston if you are attending the
session in person. The live link to the session will be made available on the day via staff news.

The session will also be recorded and made available for anyone unable to attend.

I would love to hear your thoughts on areas we could improve or even celebrate something you're happy about. I’m excited to hear your thoughts and chat with you.

National Self-Care Week featuring PHIL

Our Public Health in Lancashire van (PHIL) will be out and about for Self-Care Week. The van is staffed by colleagues from public health along with some services that we
commission. It will be at the locations and dates below from 10am to 4pm.

  • Monday 18 November: Cuerden Highways Depot - NHS eligible flu/covid vaccine, health checks, health care advice available
  • Tuesday 19 November: Whitecross - health checks available
  • Wednesday 20 November: Lancashire House, Accrington - mental health advice available
  • Thursday 21 November: Pitt Street, County Hall - NHS eligible flu/covid vaccine, health checks, health care advice available
  • Friday 22 November: Skelmersdale Neighbourhood Centre - mental health advice available

Self-care can often be forgotten as we all lead busy lives, but it is vital that each and every one of us takes some time to better look after our own wellbeing. There are some great resources on our Employee Assistance Programme Website, the access code is lccsupport. I would encourage you all to take a few moments to think about what self-care means for you.

CQC inspection update

I would like to thank everyone in Adult Services and other teams who have helped pull together information for the first phase of the CQC inspection, which has now drawn to a close.

We are awaiting notification from the CQC of when the second phase of the inspection will begin. This period will see assessors visit County Hall to hold a series of interviews and meetings with staff, partners, and members of the public. We will have 6-8 weeks from the date of notification before the inspection takes place and will keep you updated when we receive it.

Information from phases one and two will be considered by assessors who will focus on the delivery of the county council's duties as set out in Part One of the Care Act 2014, the Mental Health Act 1983 and Mental Capacity Act 2005. For more information, visit our CQC inspection intranet page.

Workforce Flu Campaign

Our annual Workforce Flu Campaign is well underway. The onsite clinics have delivered over 1,000 flu vaccines to you. Having the flu vaccine helps to ensure that essential
services can still be provided and delivered to the residents of Lancashire. If you didn't manage to attend one of the clinics, you can visit a local pharmacy, pay for the vaccine and then claim the cost through Oracle. I also wanted to thank our Flu Team for organising the clinics, well done!

Have a great week everyone.
