Using Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems for work

  • Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) offers us many opportunities to streamline processes, save time and increase productivity.
  • From 17 June, you will be able to use Copilot web, our corporate Gen AI service, as a digital assistant that helps you find information and complete tasks.
  • If you use a corporate device for work, you will be able to access this tool via your Edge browser – just look for the blue icon on the top right of your screen or go to copilot.microsoft.com.
  • Make sure you are logged in with your work account and can see the Green Protected shield before entering any sensitive information.
  • Remember that Copilot uses AI and the results generated are not always completely accurate so it is important that you always carefully check AI-generated content for accuracy.
  • From 17 June you won't be able to access other Gen AI tools such as ChatGPT from your work device.
  • There's more information and training sessions available on the intranet to help you learn more including how Gen AI should be used.

Writing letters – dos and don'ts

  • Communication is an important element of every business relationship. The words, tone and language we use when we write to people is very important and strongly influences their view of us as an organisation.
  • Understanding how we say something is just as important as what we say in our letters and emails to our customers and can help us maintain a positive relationship with them.
  • Please look at the guide to writing letters or emails to customer on the intranet to find out more.

Senior management appointments

  • I'm pleased to tell you that we have recently appointed Matt Townsend as our new Director of Highways & Transport.
  •  Matt, who worked previously with Amey and National Highways, offers extensive experience of working in this area.
  • Matt joined us this week, prior to Phil Durnell's retirement on Friday 12 July
