Notice periods
The period of contractual notice required by either side to terminate an employee's appointments is:
- For employees at Grade 6 or below - one month
- For employees at Grade 7 or 8 - two months
- Employees at Grade 9 or above - three months
Subject to the period of notice given by the employer being at least equal to the statutory minimum periods of notice under the employment legislation which are as follows:

Two years or more | One week for each year of continuous employment subject to a maximum of twelve weeks |
For the calculation of statutory notice, "continuous service" relates to Lancashire County Council continuous service and not Local Government continuous service.
Period of notice to terminate employment during probationary period
The appropriate periods of notice to be given by either party when termination of employment occurs during a probationary period are as follows:
- The minimum period of notice to be given by the employing service shall be a period of not less than one week.
- The minimum period of notice to be given by an employee shall be the ordinary period from one pay period to the next.
