Wireless Internet access is now available in several Lancashire libraries. Anyone with a wireless enabled laptop, notebook, iPod, Blackberry or other portable device (computer or mobile phone) can now use it to connect wirelessly to email and the internet through the library's network.
You will simply need an email address to login.
The network is filtered but unsecured – usage is at your risk, and the standard Library Internet Acceptable Usage Policy applies.
Tips for using the public WiFi:
You will need a wireless enabled laptop using the 802.11a/b/g standard
the WiFi hotspot is called LCCPublicWifi - this should appear in your list of WiFi services.
Once you have connected to the hotspot please open or restart your internet browser to see the login page 'Lancashire County Council WiFi Services'
enter your e-mail address into the Email Address box and click the 'Accept' button to agree to the Acceptable Use Policy.
Your browser should open the 'WiFi Gateway' page and should then redirect to the Lancashire County Council home page. Use the 'Quick Links' or Search to find other information that we provide.
Click the 'home' button to go to your usual home page or type in an address in e.g. http://www.google.co.uk when you have finished you can simply close your browser and disconnect in your Wireless network settings.
Troubleshooting
You may need to adjust your browser Connections settings so that proxy settings, IP address and DNS are assigned automatically for secure websites. Information is given on the 'WiFi Gateway' page to help you do this if you are using Internet Explorer or Firefox.
If your login fails, check that the wireless signal is not too weak. If it is try moving to another part of the building.
Try restarting your laptop and your browser if you still cannot connect.
Ask library staff for a copy of the 'Public WiFi Instructions for Libraries in Lancashire' sheet.
These WiFi facilities are provided through Lancashire County Council's 'People's Network' of free public computers, available at over seventy five locations throughout Lancashire.
Not all libraries are yet enabled for wifi and others will be added soon, please check this website or ask at your local library for the latest information. Alternatively ring 01772 534008 for information.
