2004 sees the Lancashire Children’s Book of the Year reach its 18th Year. It is heartening to see how the scheme has developed, evolved and gone from strength to strength since young judges across Lancashire voted their first winner, Philip Pullman’s The Ruby In the Smoke, back in 1987. With over 100 books on this year’s longlist our young judges across the county have been reading and reviewing most industriously since September! I hope that you will join us in agreeing that their efforts have been rewarded by the selection of an excellent and diverse shortlist with something to cater for all reading tastes.

All of the shortlisted books are available to borrow from Lancashire libraries and reservations can be made free of charge using an under 16s ticket. Is there a book on this year’s list that you have especially enjoyed? Why not contact us to let us know? If you have any comments or questions about the award we’d be delighted to hear from you. Keep checking this site as over the next few months we’ll be posting more information and some very exciting news.

Meanwhile… Happy Reading!
