Covering 3,069 sq km and with a resident population of more than 1.4 million modern Lancashire is one of the most populous and urbanised shire counties in Britain. In all, some 8 million people live within 50km of the County in one of Europes most densely populated areas. This directorate works in partnership with public, voluntary and private sector organisations and has prepared a community strategy to promote the social, economic and environmental well-being of people living and working in Lancashire. We also promote sustainable development in the context of the County Councils Charter for Sustainable Development, Local Agenda 21 strategy and Green Audit II and develop social inclusion policies and initiatives to improve the quality of life in deprived areas of Lancashire.
