Comment: With reference there not being a road running from Walton le Dale to Ribchester. I remember reading in Romans in lancashire (Shotter), that some coins or pottery were discovered somewhere near the line of the route you sent me last time, as an attachment. I am led towards Shotter's theory that a road did in fact exist on the south bank of the river but am still sceptical where this ran as it entered the fort at walton, presumably winery lane marks the course, and it then crossed london road, but that would have not taken it over the higher ground past walton church, which is not typical of a Roman road. It must therefore have run along a diagonal course, meeting the Samlesbury road in the vicinity of the M6 bridge, just past walton church. I seem to recall this on your attached map.

Comment: This is a very longshot but I wondered if anyone could help me with finding where Mousehill Bank was in 1821. We suspect it may have been the name of a farm or small cluster of houses somewhere near Paythorne / Wigglesworth.

The Speed map is very pictorial and sells well from our Infomation Centres. We even gave many away at the Royal Lancs Show several years ago - all printed on simulated parchment. A dealer should be able to tell if it is one of the thousands of copies or a very very rare original.

The original of the Burleigh Map is in the National Archives. It appears to be based on Saxton's Map (c.1590) and supposedly shows catholics and their estates. The County Archivist has a copy which, if it is out of copyright, I will look at adding here.

Comment: Lord Burliegh's map of Lancashire should be included on this site as it is extraordinarily detailed and lists all the homes of recussants at the time, with a cross as well as beacons on various hills, in a chain for early warning against the Spanish Armada. It is one of the most overlooked of the Lancashire maps in my opinion. Is there any possibility of including it on the site in future?.

Comment: Very much enjoyed looking at the old maps of the Fylde and Lytham. Does anyone know of any 19th century maps of Weeton with Preese? I`m looking for somewhere called Stanley Hill - the farm where my g g grandparents lived.

Comment: Regarding the farm track, leading from Haighton Green lane to New Chingle hall. This lane appears on the 1829 Hennet map, but not Greenwood`s of 1818. On another tithe map there is a ford marked, crossing Blundell brook. There is a clearly marked hollow where the road was, but it doesn`t seem to lead anywhere after that. Would it possibly have connected Haighton Green lane and Whittingham road as a `waingate?`.

Comment: We have been trying to track down my great-great grandfather for several years. We believe he came from Lumberhead Green, Lancashire, but I haven`t been able to find it on any map. I am hoping some mught enlighten me so we can begin the search some where close to where he was suppose to live. He was born about 1809, so I have been trying to find a map from that era. Thanks in advance for any help.

Comment: Ken, It is a common question but we cannot supply prints. For personal use ie non-profit making, then just download it and get a local print shop to print it out for you.
