10.7 School Crossing Patrol Service

We will maintain a high quality and reliable school crossing patrol service.

Lancashire County Council oversees the service and monitors site allocation, associated times, budgetary control and risk assessments. A service provider is contracted to deliver recruitment, training and emergency cover. The service will;
  • try to achieve cover of 100% and not falling below 90%
  • complete site assessments within six weeks of any patrol site becoming vacant
  • undertake an independent appeals procedure where appropriate
  • assess requests for new sites from schools, members of the public and other sources.
Lancashire has formulated a new way to assess risks at sites and will carry out a rolling programme of site assessments conducted by qualified health and safety officers and traffic engineers. This will enable us to identify and prioritise sites where engineering solutions can change the immediate environment and reduce the risk for patrol staff and school children.
