In 1991, the first Green Audit of environmental conditions in Lancashire was published, with a commitment to produce an update on how conditions changed every three years. The 2 nd Green Audit, was published in 1994, and looked at the county’s environment, and it’s relationship with social and economic conditions. The Audit gained widespread acclaim and set a benchmark in sustainability reporting.
Lancashire’s Green Audit was designed to help in the task of gathering information and measuring progress towards sustainable development. 39 indicators were selected to monitor the county’s environmental, social and economic conditions. These indicators were organised under 11 themes, with each theme representing a desirable goal for sustainable development. Each indicator shows how environmental conditions vary across the county, how things are changing over time, and how the indicator is linked to the condition of other indicators.
The main findings of the Audit can be seen by following the link below. However, it is important to note that Green Audit 2 was a work project looking at a snapshot in time, and the document has not been updated since 1997. As such, some of the results will now be out of date.
