Based within the Environment Directorate of Lancashire County Council, the role of the Environment Policy team is to:
‘‘Operate corporately and in partnership to facilitate the County Council in its environmental sustainability leadership role.’’
The main objectives of the team are to:
Raise awareness within, and to engage local communities.
We work on a wide range of different activities both within the county council and around the county. The Environmental Policy Team’s work is driven by international, national and local policy and programmes.
The United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 brought together governments from around the world to develop an action plan that came to be known as Agenda 21. This presents the baseline to achieve sustainable development in the 21 st Century.
The UK Sustainable Development Strategy ‘Securing the Future’ was launched in March 2005, and lists priorities for UK action.
The Lancashire Environment Strategy brings a focus to our work, and highlights the key themes for environmental sustainability
Key themes are highlighted in each of the International, National and Local agendas, and these include:
Health and Environment.
