In July 2003 an Interim Steering Group was established from members of the old Lancashire Environment Forum. The purpose of this Group was to help develop the initial policy framework for a new Lancashire Environment Strategy and write a Constitution for a new Lancashire Environment Partnership (LEP).
The new LEP builds on the former Lancashire Environment Forum, but with a renewed role as set out in the Constitution. Its primary purpose is to develop, implement and monitor the Lancashire Environment Strategy. The Partnership is directed by an elected Steering Group made up of representatives from a cross-section of public, private and non–governmental bodies. The Environmental Policy Team at the County Council, in the first case carries out secretariat duties for the Partnership.
All organisations across the county of Lancashire who play a role in protecting and enhancing Lancashire’s environment are eligible to join the Partnership. These may include:
Statutory
public bodies;
Community
groups and NGOs;
Businesses
with an environmental focus; and
Other local
forums and partnerships
Organisations can apply for Membership of the Partnership at any time.
