We wanted to find out about the environmental issues you feel are important in your local area. We commissioned the Preston Community Arts Project (Prescap) to hold four one-day workshops in November in four libraries across Lancashire - Preston, Burnley, Skelmersdale and Morecambe. Jason Green, a community artist employed by Prescap facilitated the workshops. The aim of the workshops was to ask the general public visiting their library to respond to three questions about the area they live in.

Jason asked people:
1. What area of your environment do you dislike?
2. What area of your environment do you like?
3. What would you like to see in your environment in the future?
Their responses were drawn onto paper first allowing time to think through ideas. They then transferred their designs onto a large fabric banner using fabric pens. The banner was divided into three to group the three questions. Four banners were made in total and were put on display at our conference 'Beyond la21' in November. Many interesting images came out of the consultation that show the different issues that are important to local people, these will be fed into the emerging environment strategy for Lancashire.
We would like to thank the four libraries, the staff that welcomed us warmly and also for allowing us to approach people to take part. We would also like to thank all those who took part and showed interest in the workshop.
