Training for Teaching Assistants

National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs)

National Vocational Qualifications are available for a wide range of occupational Areas and have recently become available to Teaching Assistants.

  • NVQs: If you are not familiar with them they are unlike any other qualification you may have achieved. There is no exam, no revision and no syllabus
  • NVQs: Are a formalised system for giving recognition and credit for QUALITY WORK PERFORMANCE and offer an alternative approach to traditional College based learning
  • NVQs: Recognise that a majority of our skills are gained in a 'hands on' capacity and have devised systems for recording and accrediting these skills. The NVQ process allows you, the candidate, to demonstrate what you know... and what you do... within your existing job role
  • NVQs: Are based upon National Standards which are required in employment. They are gained by the assessment of what you are able to do. The qualifications are nationally recognised, therefore existing and future employers alike welcome these qualifications
  • NVQs: Provide an equal opportunity for all staff to have skills, relevant to their work, assessed and in future the focus of staff training will reflect the standards set nationally
  • NVQs: Recognise competence rather than academic ability
  • NVQs: Are work based and have open access with no barriers
  • NVQs: Are increasing in value and importance within the workplace
