Headteachers' Support Programme

The Headteachers' Support Programme is an action research project supported through the Department of Trade and Industry Partnership at Work fund. It is specifically focussed upon Headteachers, who have been identified as those people within the school workforce who require specific support for their well-being.

It is a partnership between Lancashire LA, Headteachers, NAHT/SHA/NUT, Governing Bodies and Diocesan Authorities with a focus on partnership and support. The main aims of the project are:

  • to identify key stressors
  • to identify factors that encourage heads to seek support
  • to audit support that already exists for heads and analyse its effectiveness
  • to identify the nature and scope of additional support and development
  • to share existing strategies and pilot new approaches
  • to disseminate findings across Lancashire
  • to devise an effective exit strategy
  • to create a steering group/project co-ordinator
  • to facilitate awareness raising through meetings and a newsletter
  • to facilitate Professional Conversations
  • to organise Headteacher Days
