Wireless
Wireless telegraphy was introduced and provided a means of communication between trawlers and their companies. In a trawler fleet one or two trawlers would be used to receive reports of position and catches from other vessels in the area. The information would be passed on to the company office on shore. The company office could monitor the catch and decide when the trawlers should land and at which port and so make the most of market conditions. To maintain confidentiality each company would use a code with each trawler having its own copy. Codes were changed regularly.
Radio-telephones began to replace wireless-telegraphy in the 1930's although morse continued to be used for telegrams.
