Smacks
The early fishing trawlers were known as smacks. Typically these would be two-masted sailing trawlers. Many of them were built in Fleetwood and others at Glasson Dock near Lancaster. They would fish in the coastal waters nearby and off the Welsh or Scottish coasts. The last fishing smack to sail out of Fleetwood was the 'Harriet' FD111. She is now at the rear of Fleetwood Museum awaiting restoration.
