Coastal Fishing
The flounder, or fluke, is an inshore flatfish best caught at the onset of cold weather when it swims inshore. They are found in very shallow waters, often in channels between sandbanks, and were sometimes speared using a fluking iron - a three or four-pronged and barbed spear - or caught in hand nets. For commercial purposes most were caught using a variety of nets, mainly from boats.
