Message from Kevin Ellard , Chair of the Overview and Scrutiny Management Committee

Welcome to Overview & Scrutiny

This site tells you all you need to know about Overview and Scrutiny in Lancashire, whether you're coming to one of our meetings, providing evidence for one of our investigations, or if you're simply interested in this vital part of the council's democratic structure.

What is Overview & Scrutiny?

Overview and Scrutiny is a key part of the council's political structure and plays a vital role in improving the services that the people of Lancashire use. Their role is to monitor the council's work and make recommendations on the way services are provided. They act as a check on the cabinet and its decisions, and also play a major part in developing county council policy by carrying out in-depth investigations.

Overview and Scrutiny doesn't just look at the way the council does things. They can look at anything that affects the lives of the people of Lancashire. For example, we play a significant role in making sure local health services are delivered to the high standard the people of Lancashire deserve.

Overview and Scrutiny committees are committees of county councillors and other representatives (such as parent governors and district councillors).
