Jubilee Bank Holiday Weekend

This museum will be closed Sunday 3rd, Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th June to allow our volunteers-who help keep the museum open-to enjoy and celebrate the Royal Jubilee. We sincerely apologise to anyone who wanted to visit us on these dates.

A Voyage of Discovery

  • Overlooking the beautiful Morecambe Bay this friendly Museum, housed in the old Custom House, a Grade II listed building designed  by the famous architect Decimus Burton, explores the story of Fleetwood from past to present.
  • Find out about the Victorian idealism of Fleetwood's founder, Sir Peter Hesketh Fleetwood and find out more about his friend Decimus Burton, who designed and began building the new Victorian planned seaside town.
  • Come and discover more about Fleetwood's heyday as a Victorian seaside resort, its cargo trade, ferry services, its lifeboats and brave lifeboat men, about the docks, the invaluable and heroic role trawler men played during the wars, the chemical giant ICI and much more...
  • Two galleries tell the fascinating story of Fleetwood's hugely successful endeavours at deep sea fishing and inshore fishing.
  • Drop in and have a coffee in our comfortable, friendly Coffee House and feel free to browse in our shop, which has a wide variety of gifts and souvenirs for sale.

Fleetwood's 175th Anniversary

Fleetwood's 175th Anniversary took place in 2011 and the two new exhibitions developed for this anniversary have been very popular and they will continue to be on show throughout 2012.

'The Story of Fleetwood' & ' A Photographic Celebration of Fleetwood's 175 Years'.

Both exhibitions are concerned with Fleetwood's unique and fascinating history as Lancashire's first planned Victorian seaside town and its subsequent development throughout the two last centuries. An amazing collection of images and objects, all related to fleetwood but with varied subject headings, such as entertainment, recreation, shops, business, sport, streets, buildings, railway, fishing, docks and more...

A fascinating insight in to a  town to which Sir Peter Hesketh Fleetwood gave both his name and his fortune.

People are amazed about who they know in the photographs and many have enjoyed reminiscing about long forgotten facets of their lives. Don't miss it ....
